Yes. Please be sure to provide your flight information so that we can coordinate for you.
Typically, your average tip is around 12% - 15% to your guide. Our other staff (Ex: cook, wrangler, and camp jack) are a bit less. Please note that most guides do this seasonally and work very hard to ensure you have a great trip. If anyone has gone above and beyond your expectations your generous tip is greatly appreciated.
When you are at the ranch there is some service depending on your provider (AT&T works best). However, you will also have access to wifi while at the lodge.
While out in the wilderness there will be no cell service
Over the last 6 years we have consistently operated around a 90% opportunity rate. An opportunity would be any decent shooter bull within 300 yards for rifle and 50 yards with the bow.
No, you do not need to be an experienced horseman. Our stock is extremely gentle and have put thousands of miles on these trails.
However with that being said, the more experience, the better. If you have never ridden a horse before, I suggest you take some riding lessons back home. This will get you familiar with riding and you will be much more comfortable. Riding before your hunt, will also help condition your muscles because riding uses different muscles than most people normally use.
Whether it’s in a wilderness tent or in our 5 star lodge good food is a staple of what we provide.
Our typical daily meals consist of
- Hardy breakfast (Eggs, Bacon, pancakes, burritos, biscuits and gravy)
- Packed Lunch (Sandwich meat, chips, fruit snacks)
- Dinner (Steaks, Pork chops, Pasta’s, Tacos)
- Desserts (Fresh baked Pies, cakes, cookies)
Yes. Most hunters will see elk every day. There are a lot of elk in this valley. There are resident elk herds and we are only a few miles from Yellowstone National Park with many of these elk migrating through our area in the later hunts.
Weather in the mountains can vary drastically. Some days it may be below freezing or warm up into the 70’s. Snow is possible on any of the hunts and you will need to be prepared. On most nights, temperatures will drop below freezing. We will give you a list of items that you will need to bring.
Please see our License Info Page for complete instructions.
No. Our elk hunt area is deep in the wilderness. Wyoming law prohibits nonresidents from hunting in wilderness areas without a guide.
All our rifle hunts are 8 days with 6 days of hunting, while our archery hunt is 10 days with 8 days of hunting. Each trip requires 2 days of travel (1 day in and 1 day out) as it is 7.5 hours to camp on horseback.
After the hunt, we have a full walk in cooler at the ranch that we can store the meat over night. From here there are two options:
1. You can use our onsite butcher shop. All meat will be commercially vacuumed sealed with specialty sausages available. Unfortunately, all meat must be shipped to you, we do not offer 1-2 day turn around.
2. You can take the meat home with you. If you are driving, the best option we have seen is to pack a chest freezer right into the bed of your truck. This way you can tape it shut and plug it in each night. If you are flying, you can pack the frozen meat into a cooler and check them on the plane. **Please check with your airline provider regarding weight restrictions**
